Western cinches or girths secure your saddle to your horse and prevent the saddle from slipping. Western cinches or girths can be made from various materials such as leather, cotton or nylon. Traditional cinches are made of mohair cord often called a string girth or cinch. Many cinches are lined with fleece for your horse's comfort and to prevent rubs or sores. A good cinch will have some "give" to it and will be wide enough to provide comfort to the horse. The cinch or girth is attached to the saddle with saddle accessories called latigos or off billets made of leather or nylon.
