Western Spurs

Western spurs are worn by riders to cue the horse to move forward or laterally. Western spurs typically are used to reinforce the rider's natural aids. Knob end spurs have a rounded off end that is used to nudge the horse. The length of the spur end can benefit the rider by helping them find the sides of the horse without major leg movements. However, the rider's experience level should be taken into consideration to avoid a new rider accidently spurring the horse. Barrel racing spurs have ridges along the inside of the spur instead of the neck. This allows the rider to use the spurs without making a significant leg movement.
