These boots looked lovely and were made of beautifully soft leather. I think they wouldn't have required any type of break in period. However, they were already a bit short on my calf (I usually buy a regular height), and I feared that the soft leather would slouch and they'd be even shorter. Additionally, the very soft leather wouldn't do much to help maintain a good foot/leg position, I think. I was tempted to keep these boots just for general non-equestrian use, because they were comfortable and nice looking, but opted for another pair.
