Eventing or cross country saddles as they are sometimes known, are an English saddle similar to close contact saddles. However, they have a bit more substance to allow the rider more stability in getting through difficult cross country obstacles while also being able to stay out of the horse's way over them. Eventing saddles have a bit deeper seat than the close contact saddle and a bigger knee roll to help keep the rider's leg in position.
