Tie Downs and Western Martingales are used by Western riders to help balance their horses and control head carriage.
Tie Downs and Martingales are particularly common in speed events such as barrel racing. Be careful not to adjust them too tight, or you may inadvertently inhibit the horses ability to stay upright in the event of a slip or fall.
