In the upper levels of Dressage, horses are shown in Double Bridles, also known as Weymouth Bridles.
These double bridles are designed to support the use of two bits, and two corresponding sets of reins. The use of a small snaffle bit, called a bradoon, in addition to a curb bit, allows the rider to give very specific cues to the horse for the more advanced movements.
Remember, while a double bridle with two bits can help produce an amazing performance, in untrained hands, it can be very severe!
