Nature or Nuture?

Nature, Nurture and Horses, by Paul Belasik explores equine development, training and personality in four young horses.

In the spring and summer of 2007, four horses were born. Follow along as these four horses—all siblings that grew up together—as they experience their first steps, their first human touches, and their first year of training, covering a span of almost four years. Along the way Belasik explores the breaking and training system he has used for almost 40 years on hundreds of horses—one that evolved to prepare the classical dressage horse but which has become a universally valuable elementary education for the sport horse, regardless of discipline. In addition, through Belasik’s wonderfully spun “journal entries,” readers get an intimate glimpse into his life as a breeder, trainer, teacher, and writer.

Paul Belasik
is a highly respected international rider, trainer, writer, and teacher, and an avowed proponent of classical equestrian ideals. Belasik gives clinics, lectures, and demonstrations around the world, and trains a wide cross section of clients at his Pennsylvania Riding Academy at Lost Hollow Farm. He is the author of Riding Towards the Light, Exploring Dressage Technique, and The Songs of Horses, the trilogy which gained him a large and appreciative audience, as well as the highly acclaimed Dressage for the 21st Century (paulbelasik.com).
